In a Hobbit’s shoes

During my road trip in New Zealand with my friend Audrey, we made a stop in Rotorua. As both of us are fans of the universe created by Tolkien, we had to do a tour in Hobbiton. We booked our tour in bus and few activities via NakedBus (company that stopped working unfortunately). You can book your tour directly on the website or on site (without any guaranty of availabilities at the wished date).

The D-day, a Hobbiton’s bus comes to pick you up in the center of Rotorua. After around an hour of bus, you arrive at the starting point of your tour. But, you will have to patient a bit more before to discover the famous village of The Shire. Indeed, after a short stop in the souvenirs shops, you go back in the bus for few minutes. You are FINALLY arrived at your destination. 😉

During around 2 hours, a guide will explain you all the filming secrets walking in the Shire. You can take as many pictures as you want. And you could even play the hobbit for few shots. You will end your tour in the famous bar of the movie where you will be able to have a drink. After that, you will go back to the souvenirs shops and then Rotorua.

My opinion

It is an expensive activity (around 70€ per person from Rotorua). But, if you love cinema and more especially The Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit, it will be an unforgettable experience, same as for the visit of the Making of Harry Potter. 😉

And you, have you been there? What did you think of it? Would you like to do it? 🙂
